MEST Class of 2016-A Graduates!

MEST | Monday, June 27th, 2016

In 2014, MEST searched high and low for the brightest minds and budding entrepreneurs in Ghana as always–and for the first time ever, we recruited Entrepreneurs-in-Training (EITs) from Nigeria, powered by a generous partnership with Nigeria-based Interswitch.

All incoming Entrepreneurs-in-Training (EITs) received a full scholarship to a one-year entrepreneurial training program that blends an MBA-type education with hands-on training in software development.

Fast forward two years later, after going through an intensive program in software development and entrepreneurship at MEST, the class of 28 Entrepreneurs-in-Training (EITs) have successfully completed the MEST Program and graduated this weekend (17-18 June).

Over the past two years, they have been taught by experienced fellows and faculty carefully selected from different parts of the world to provide hands-on training on subjects such as software development, business plan writing, marketing, pitching, investments, software life cycle, agile development among many other important subjects.

Towards the end of the program, EITs form into teams, developed products, write business plans, and craft their investor pitches. We worked with them to fine-tune their ideas, fix bugs in your product, revitalize your go-to-market strategy and open up our global network of VCs, angel investors and corporates.

The Teams that pitched are ;

  • TressApp : A mobile app that enables users to discover and share their beautiful hairstyles.
  • Beavly : A learning platform which provides a platform for users to learn From Top Career Professionals
  • Loystar : An SMS mobile-based loyalty application which helps merchants grow their businesses.
  • Spring : An on – demand Cleaning Service offering Trustworthy Cleaners
  • Cocktail Insights : A social media analytics platform which helps merchants measure and maximize their ROI on social media marketing
  • Caring Hand : A website which provides health and non-health homecare services for the elderly and patients with immediate needs.
  • Amplify : The smartest way to accept and manage recurring payments in Nigeria.
  • OnceNOut: The new, fun and hassle-free way to discover buy and sell affordable authentic pre-owned fashion items.
  • Lite Learn: A mobile app which helps users learn new things to improve their career everyday

The strongest and most promising concepts receive between $50,000 to $250,000 USD in equity investment, to support the launch of these new businesses.

For their final exam, the EITs pitched their ideas to the Board of Directors for seed investment to take their ideas off the ground and launch in the global market.

Below are a selection of photos capturing the fun excitement over the weekend!
