Precious Langa believes that service is the best way to live a fulfilled life. She also believes that combining entrepreneurship and service creates a lasting impact. Read on to learn the life journey that shaped her line of thought and what her experience at MEST has been so far.

Entrepreneurship allows one the freedom to be innovative without restrictions and to break boundaries.

Where are you from?

I was born in Mokopane, Limpopo province, South Africa. We moved to Johannesburg shortly after I was born. I have spent all my life in Johannesburg.

What were you doing before joining MEST?

I was working as an IT auditor at Deloitte. I was at Ernst and Young before that.

What motivated you to apply to MEST?

I have always been passionate about tech and entrepreneurship, and I felt that it was about time I fully pursued this. I had set up a dev. shop soon after graduating from university that developed web based apps for schools, for educational and communication purposes.  It went down after about three years because it lacked structures and wasn’t professionalized.

Why do you wake up in the morning?

Having the knowledge that I have an opportunity to be the best person I can ever be, both to myself and to the world. I constantly remind myself it is not about me, but what I have to deliver for others.

My other motivation is my love for service. I live to serve others. That is my purpose on earth. I believe that everybody comes on earth with a package to deliver. If you do that, you have lived a fulfilled life. That is my definition of living life to the fullest; enter earth carrying gifts and leave empty.

How many businesses have you established, or run?

I’ve started three business – the one I mentioned earlier and two others. The other two were a real estate agency and a logistics company. I started working in real estate as an agent while I was in grade 11.  I then left the real estate agency and partnered with a colleague to start our own agency.

What do you think of MEST so far?

As hectic as it is, it is exciting! The knowledge I have gained in the last two months is immeasurable. I am looking forward to learning even more over the coming months.

When I was coming to MEST, I expected to grow. So far, I can say I have grown and I continue to grow as a technologist and as an entrepreneur.

What has been your most memorable moment at MEST so far?

My experience from the last two months has been great, but I think the best is yet to come.

However, for now, the people I have met, and interacted with have been great. Being around them has been a huge learning experience, not just when it comes to class but in terms of relationships as well; how different yet similar we are in terms of backgrounds, where we come from, what drives us, embracing each individual uniqueness and constantly having to step out of yourself and try to have a view of somebody else’s process.

What drove you down the entrepreneurship path?

The main reason is because I want to outlive myself. I also want to be part of the solution, not the problem. Entrepreneurship allows one the freedom to be innovative without restrictions and to break boundaries.
