The Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) is a not-for-profit organization with the aim of creating jobs and wealth locally in Africa by training and investing in students from Ghana and Nigeria to help them become globally successful software entrepreneurs. MEST offers a 12month intensive entrepreneurial training in business and software development, and for the right candidates the MEST incubator offers seed investment and support to start-up businesses founded by the MEST graduates. MEST seeks to build a vibrant IT industry in West Africa, rivaling the world’s other technology hubs in producing innovative world-class companies. MEST is fully funded by Meltwater Group through Meltwater Foundation.

As one of two Senior Faculty members at MEST, the Senior Program Manager is responsible for training and developing entrepreneurs-in-training at MEST to become successful software entrepreneurs who will compete in the global marketplace. Over a period of 12 months, the Senior Program Manager is a key contributor in advancing the MEST training institute in Ghana, as a critical force in developing Africa’s technology industry.

  1. Develop future software entrepreneurs from West Africa and act as a positive role model. Excellent management and mentoring skills are crucial.
  2. Motivate and inspire small teams of entrepreneurs-in-training in completing software development projects by creating a positive and dynamic learning environment. Teach them to turn these projects into global software companies.
  3. Manage a small staff of teaching assistants, who will assist in delivering lecture and lab material.
  4. Develop and manage a business and technology curriculum that includes current trends and best practices in software development and elements required for creating a comprehensive business plan.
  5. Coach entrepreneurs-in-training in developing their critical thinking abilities and strengthening their interpersonal and communication skills.
  6. Create and deliver lectures; think out-of-the box and be creative in ways to effectively teach software development using interactive methods that will encourage independent thinking.
  7. Analyze project deliverables, conduct performance evaluations and give constructive feedback.
  8. Introduce trainees to the latest business practices in the global market.
  9. Mentor trainees in developing innovative new business ideas and foster continued unique idea generation.
  10. Be part of the MEST administration team to support the overall running of the organization


  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or closely related field, or in business or entrepreneurship (Master, Ph.D. a plus)
  2. 10 or more years of technology/business working experience; 5 or more years of developing or managing web development and or/mobile projects using recent technologies
  3. Experience in a entrepreneurial start-up
  4. Hands-on programming experience and familiarity with several programming languages, open source software, databases & web architecture
  5. Broad knowledge of SDLC and proven track record of successfully delivering software projects
  6. Excellent business knowledge, ranging from principles of management to writing business plans
  7. Proven ability to lead, direct and motivate development teams
  8. Experience with mobile technologies is a plus
  9. Previous teaching experience at the college level or corporate training experience is advantageous
