“When we look at others that have been nominated, we don’t see much difference in the quality of work we have produced. MEST has shaped us to compete with the big guys.”

We’re excited to announce that one of the newest companies to join the MEST Incubator, Qisimah Audio Insights, has been nominated for an International World Summit Award in the Business and Commerce Category. The company has been selected as Best National Digital Solution for Ghana.

The World Summit Awards (WSA) ‘selects and promotes local digital innovation with high impact on improving society’. WSA was established by the UN World Summit on the Information Society and works to put UN-WSIS goals into action. About 180 countries participate in the awards, and it has become a quality seal for digital content with societal impact over the past fifteen years.

Qisimah Audio Insights is a radio content monitoring platform that provides key stakeholders in the music industry with real-time data in regards to their music. The platform tracks which radio stations play your song, as well as the country in which it was played.

We sat down with two of the founders of Qisimah, CTO Solomon Appier-Sign and CPO Kofi Aboagye-Akyea, who can hardly believe something like this has happened so soon for them, explaining that many established companies apply for these nominations every year.

However, the team feels that MEST has prepared them well to go up against major players right out of the gate. Kofi explained, “The training we went through at MEST is not local training. It puts you on a global scale.” Meanwhile, Solomon described how he has noticed the team’s relative strength, saying, “When we look at others that have been nominated, we don’t see much difference in the quality of work we have produced. MEST has shaped us to compete with the big guys.” When asked what this nomination means for Qisimah, Solomon explained, “It gives us a head start by making us more credible.” With the backing of WSA, both believe Qisimah will have a leg up when it comes to credibility, even before their official launch. Previous winners of the WSA Business and Commerce Category include HostelWorld, HootSuite, and TransferWise.

Kofi recognized that they have set a high standard early on and that it will be a challenge to maintain this momentum, but both are certain Qisimah will be able to do so. In the near future, Solomon sees Qisimah as “the one stop shop for radio analytics in Africa”.

Qisimah will now be evaluated by the WSA Online Jury 2017 based on seven fundamental criteria: content, functionality, design, technology, innovation, impact, and global/UN value. Make sure to follow Qisimah’s journey on Facebook and Twitter, and stay tuned for the results!
