Exciting news to share from MEST!

MEST recently finalized and announced a partnership deal that will expand the reach of our program to include Nigerian entrepreneurs. Powered by sponsorship from Interswitch Ltd, a leading African provider of online and mobile payment services, MEST will for the first time in its history now recruit and train EITs who hail from both Ghana and Nigeria, beginning this fall.

Directly impacting and benefiting Nigeria’s IT entrepreneurs and its rapidly growing domestic ICT industry, the ‘Interswitch MEST’ partnership will also allow us to jolt our efforts in the West African region. The partnership also opens MEST to the biggest market (population of 180 million people) in Africa.

Nigeria has a vibrant and growing middle class of consumers, a fast-moving economy and a youthful population that craves and consumes the latest technology. Access to a much wider market will translate into larger growth opportunities for both our students and our portfolio companies.

Interswitch will be a major driving force behind our success in Nigeria and we’re also thrilled to have the support of the Federal Minister of Communication Technology, Dr. Omobola Johnson, who stated that “‘Interswitch MEST’ training programme is a welcome development that complements the work of the Federal Ministry in developing the skills and reach of local ICT entrepreneurs in Nigeria. We look forward to the success of this initiative and world class software companies in Nigeria, being created as a direct result of this collaboration.”

This deal is just the beginning for MEST’s partnership efforts. Our team is developing a rich network of strategic relationships within and across regional technology ecosystems in Africa. Our aim is to formalize additional partnerships with top-notch organizations who share MEST’s impact goals and will work with us to support local entrepreneurs, as well as further catalyze the explosive growth that is already underway in these markets.

With the collaboration of the Interswitch leadership team, we’re currently actively recruiting for the EIT class of 2016 and look forward to welcoming Nigerian students into the MEST community, with the school year officially starting this August. Looking forward to welcoming our new students and kicking off the school year soon!
